How to Extend a Reach-In’s Life Cycle

Lisa White, Contributing Editor -- Foodservice Equipment & Supplies, 6/17/2008 9:23:00 AM

Although reach-in units consist of basic components and do not require much maintenance, foodservice operators can perform a few basic tasks to ensure smooth and trouble-free operation.

Please note that the list below contains general maintenance information and should not be substituted for the manufacturer’s requirements and recommendations.

1. Clean door gaskets on a regular basis with soapy water. Avoid using chlorine-based cleaners, as they will deteriorate the gaskets.

2. Occasionally check gaskets for tears. Torn gaskets prevent doors from properly sealing and will affect storing temperatures inside the unit.

3. Regularly clean evaporator fins, especially when the unit is exposed to grease.

4. Wipe out reach-in cabinets, and clean spills immediately.

5. Clean condensers every 30 to 60 days, thoroughly removing dust and debris.
